HIV AIDS
HIV education is key to preventing and treating HIV infection worldwide, but especially in the developing world, where low literacy in general presents barriers to prevention education.
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Living Hope Uganda has developed an educational roadmap that facilitates adult learning for people at risk or living with HIV/AIDS in high affected areas. This roadmap will target people who rely more on visual and oral communication. The program centers around a culturally appropriate, navigator-friendly HIV Roadmap that allows individuals to discuss complex issues such as facts and myths, the importance and implications of testing, dealing with a positive diagnosis, and initiating care and treatment.
Key Values:
Condom Use
Not Sharing sharp objects
Faithfulness in marriage
Abstainance
Early treatment of STDs
Hope and Strength if infected
Activities
Each roadmap can facilitate conversations by up to eight individuals and a trained facilitator. A donation of $10 covers the cost of two HIV Roadmaps and an accompanying Facilitator’s Guide.
Potential Long Term Impact
Living Hope Uganda aims to provide its network of 100 clinics in Uganda with two HIV Roadmap Kits. If fully funded, this HIV literacy project could impact over 100,000 people at risk for or living with HIV/AIDS.
