HEALTH PROGRAM
With a life expectancy of 48 years and a 19% infant mortality rate, health is one of Uganda's greatest concerns. LHU organization is training health workers and providing supplies to help 35,000 villagers.
Project Needs and Beneficiaries
Rural villagers lack the infrastructure and training to deal with the devastating effects of malaria, water-born diseases and other basic health concerns. Relief efforts alone will not address the long-term effects of this lack of training and infrastructure. Villagers need supplies AND training in order to face their health needs.
Activities
LHU organization provides mosquito nets, vaccinations and medicines to address the immediate needs of villagers, but continues to the sustainability level with training sessions for hundreds of village health workers who facilitate long-term change.
Potential Long Term Impact
By training village health workers and health councils, LHU organization is building capacity in villagers to be able to face their future health concerns without outside intervention.
